I have used an older version of Video DownloadHelper for years.
I got a new laptop (with windows 11), installed firefox and Video DownloadHelper.
This new version doesn't do anything other than telling you that it requires a companion application.
Shame on Video DownloadHelper for doing this. - Rated 1 out of 5by Erik Andersson, 3 years ago

- Rated 1 out of 5by jr, 3 years agoWon't really download much anymore. The "add on companion app" is clearly a scam or virus because it doesn't actually work. This should be removed from the Add-Ons store.

- Rated 1 out of 5by nekavoq, 3 years agoShort version: They now add a QR Code watermark to your downloads so you'd pay for their software
Used to be the best, now you'll notice some "downloads" are slower, that's because it's actually downloading, then adding a QR Code, frame-by-frame, to your downloaded video, because now they decided that they will add the QR Code as a watermark to get you to pay for their convertor. Don't believe me? Hop on Youtube right now and try it. It used to be a very simple downloader as is, now it's unusable. Unusable unless you pay. - Rated 1 out of 5by TheKore, 3 years agoDoesn't work. Requires separate desktop app installation that doesnt open on Mac even after allowing it on OS level.
- Rated 1 out of 5by aa, 3 years agoDon't download: add qr code to the video and requires additional software installation and spends your CPU cycles to add an annoying QR code
- Rated 1 out of 5by Gerrit Addiks, 3 years agoThis extension flat out DOES NOT WORK. It asks you to install an external application, where the "install" button to install said application does absolutely nothing.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Minifix, 3 years agoRequires companion app for the last few years. Unnecessarily resource intensive.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Rhob242, 3 years agoIs this fake? Installed and does not appear at all even after rebooting.
- Rated 1 out of 5by rtk334, 3 years agoadding a watermark does not seem like a good idea to me I have a slow pc and I have to wait for it to download and wait for them to put the QR as a watermark.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Flachzange, 3 years agoMemory Leak recently (20GB Ram usage even when closing everything), sporadic high CPU usage for no reason, sometimes 30% on an modern 8-core CPU, again even when closing all tabs besides an empty tab (the extension wasnt used or opened at all in either of those situations). Firefox performance analyzer clearly showed it was coming from this extension.
Besides that, the user interface is clunky and doesnt work correctly if the extension icon is moved into the dropdown menu. - Rated 1 out of 5by Drago, 3 years ago
