- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14079144, 7 years agoI am very dissatisfied with the recent version of the download helper. It no longer works as it used to. I am looking for different options, will definitely uninstall the download helper as soon as I find a different download software.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14077625, 7 years agoThis "free" extension will only work when you purchase their Companion app
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14075950, 7 years agoAdd-on was great, until they added the HUGE QR code to every saved/downloaded video file.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14074423, 7 years agoReally disappointed, this addon will add QR code on any video you'll download, to remove it you need to pay... I find it senseless to pay when there is dozens of download addons out there. Plus this thing is really outdated, UI is NOT intuitive and really cumbersome. Anyway there are many downsides of this addons, just download something more up to date and simpler to use.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14073566, 7 years agoI can do nothing on my PC when downloading, this using whole RAM and processor
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14073561, 7 years agoUses all ram and processor, downloading short video is very long
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13450417, 7 years agoUsed to be good but now want's to download external .exe helper. Not gonna happen . This is a sellout to get you to install spyware on your computer.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13221270, 7 years agoTried mp4 download, avi, - each time asks to install 3rd party software, what??
"Companion application required⊗
This operation requires an external application to be completed."
U serious? Addon got such extensive permissions and still asks for shady 3rd party software even more? Instant delete. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14068972, 7 years agoNot good, since they started asking for an auxiliar app to be installed the quality decreased immensely. Currently it is not working.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14068095, 7 years agoWas brilliant until the companion app update, that took a lot to update & now fails every time, I'm not particularly tech savvy but the update instructions were near useless & when complete VLC player would no longer play video, so had to reinstall new version to get that working again, no idea why that happened but it was fine before the update.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Boradis, 7 years agoUsed to be GREAT! I've been using this extension for years and years. I understand that the way it works had to be changed because of changes from Firefox recently, but now it's a mess. I'm using Firefox on a MacBook Pro with the latest Mac OS.
1. No way to tell if a download is happening. I guess it's doing it with the companion app? All I know is I ended up with a dozen files in my DWHelper folder with no indication they were there before I thought to look.
2. HUGE QR CODE WATERMARK. Hey, here's a great idea, let's ruin your video for you and charge you to NOT fuck it up. Fuuuuuck that. It doesn't warn you about this when you add the extension or download a video.
Look, I get that the developer has done this huge product for free. But I'm unemployed and broke and want to save some videos WITHOUT a watermark on them. Fuck me, right?
Yeah, this extension took a huge nosedive to uselessness. There are free video download sites for places like YouTube that you can find with a simple Google search. I suggest using those. - Rated 1 out of 5by Mx, 7 years agomost useful functions require Premium, there are better free alternatives available.

- Rated 1 out of 5by saint23thomas, 7 years agoAll this thing does when you try to use it is ask you to install an application from another website.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14064623, 7 years agoThere is no way to download a youtube video with this app, at this time. Each time I attempt to download a video, it says I must install a companion app. When I download Linux distribution companion tar.gz app, and extract to root directory, nothing seems to happen. Unable to get tech support to respond with help.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13974041, 7 years agoThis extension was my favorite before but its time is out! You get a big QR Code on the video you've downloaded... But there are lots of other extensions without any QR Code or restrictions or any problems! Why use this one???

Regrettable. - Rated 1 out of 5by Щур, 7 years ago
- Rated 1 out of 5by Valmont, 7 years agoIt downloads alright, though it does it at some slower speed. So it interferes with the possible downloadspeed somehow.
Secondly, much worse, aggregating sound and the movie (combining of the video file and sound file) takes forever. For a five-and-a-half minute video at 720p it took the plug-in just over 30 minutes! I'm on a I7 3820 @4.1 GHz. FFMPEG is at a 10% CPU load. Such a long aggregation time for this size of a video is not normal.
Thirdly, it didn't finish a few aggregation tasks, I wonder if the browser has to stay open for the duration. Also, imagine if it is a huge file. It would take forever to aggregate.
Setting the download folder fails. Something is wrong with the interface. Sometimes the settings interface closes by itself! What the heck LOL? Clicking on a custom download-folder sometimes works - so it seems - but checking it twice, your option has been deselected again. The settings page needs work.
Finally, the location of the downloaded sound-file (which needs to be combined with the video) isn't known to me yet. It's somewhere. I'd rather like to see everything downloaded in one folder, including files which are just intermediary steps.
All and all, this add-on has so much potential - it also downloads 1080p videos, but the aggregation-time is killing me.
Edit: ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME? Now I know why it takes this long to aggregate.
It adds a massive QR code in the top left corner of the video!!!
Also... the video was downloaded in 720p, but the remaining result is is also in 720p... with a bitrate of only 436 kb/s! In other words it looks like a bloody 320p video now, despite the high resolution.
Needless to say I'll uninstall this absolute rubbish in a minute. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14052905, 7 years agoThey added QR codes at the top left corner.
Add on ruined, uninstalled. - Rated 1 out of 5by Yatima, 7 years agoBe warned that you need to install an external windows app to download videos. But that's just the begining: after downloading the video, the extension/app need to "process" it. Why? To put a big QR code watermark into the video *sic*. To do that, your CPU will burn like it was mining crypto. So this extension it's a complete nonsense to me. My advise is to stay away from Video DownloadHelper and use something like youtube-dl instead.
