- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13212940, 4 years agoEngañoso. Sería bueno que pongan un aviso sobre la necesidad de descargar otro archivo e instalarlo, así como que si no pagas el video sale con marca de agua.

the browser would start taking up a ton of memory and start becoming really slow

- Rated 1 out of 5by Chuckles M., 5 years agoPuts a watermark in the corner covering about 15% of the screen. They don't tell you this until after the download completes.
The watermark is basically ransomware, requiring $28.50 to obtain a new version that doesn't ruin your downloads. Moving on to a new addon. - Rated 1 out of 5by Michael P. Shipley, 5 years agoHuge memory leaks. Went up to 2.4g before I purged it.
- Rated 1 out of 5by RomHeu, 5 years agoI've tried Video DownloadHelper as a YouTube-DL alternative to download a paid video I had rented on Vimeo. The extension offers to downloaded the 1920 x 1080 pixels DASH stream, and downloads it fast, but then it launches a transcoding (called an aggregation), even though I've disabled "Force H264 tuning in aggregation", which would have taken hours. It turns out the free version adds a watermark, which requires post-processing and transcoding. My understanding is that you have to pay €18.50 for a premium license to get fast downloads without transcoding.
I have turned to Downie 4 by Permute's developer Charlie Monroe, which is also paid at €18.99, but has the advantage of being up front about it. Alternatively it is included in the Setapp subscription service. It has a cleaner interface and it works with Chrome and Firefox as well as Safari and Opera, alas only on macOS.
tl;dr: Video DownloadHelper should clarify its freemium business model on its official website and in its browser extensions. - Rated 1 out of 5by dearroz, 5 years agoThe download helper use to be very good, but now it no longer provides the same service. Previously it provided multiple options for downloading a video but now only provides one from ADT. ADT is extremely slow in downloading and often the download fails to complete. On occasion it downloads the video but not the audio. I use it both on Win 10 and Linux Open Suse.
The problems I am guessing occurred via some updates, not sure if it was Firefox or Download Helper. I did not make any changes so it had to be a change in the software. I wish there were a better plugin since this one no longer provides proper service. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 16416972, 5 years agoUsed to be great and helpful; now it doesn't work anymore without some shady "companion app" (i won't install your software outside Mozilla, sorry). Uninstalled after years of use. Pity.
- Rated 1 out of 5by N FF M, 5 years agoI understand that they need funding for this add-on but £18.50 seems excessive considering there are several free alternatives.
