by Firefox user 13682502, 7 years agoThe new version of Video-DownloadHelper is horrendously bad. The interface has added complexity that offers no positive value to the app and obscures control of options that were perfectly accessible in the old Video-DownloadHelper. The performance of the "new-&-improved" (??!) Video-DownloadHelper is well-&-truly bizarre. I have no idea how long is required for the app to complete a download, because I am not that patient. I tried to download a file of about 250 MB and never finished; the app preemptively took over nearly 100% of both cores of my cpu and spiked memory usage, both while doing almost nothing network-wise. After several minutes of this state, the app had managed to download only about 70 MB. I could not get enough cpu slices to close Firefox or properly shut down my OS - hard reboot via power button was required!?! Note - I tried this experiment three times with nearly identical results each time.
Video-DownloadHelper used to be a solid, easy-to-use winner - no longer the case. Always sad to see a good app go bad.
