If you either invoke the Google Web search engine by keyword, or set it as your default, then data you enter into the search bar or URL bar must unavoidably be transmitted to Google (so that it can process the query and provide your search results), but only if you actually click the arrow icon or press Enter; that is, data you input into the bar but do not submit remains private.
